First of all, Taylor, that was HILARIOUS. My husband has no idea why I've been laughing so hard for the last five minutes - he thinks I'm an idiot :). Anyways, in my desperate missing of Benjelle moments, I read the AV Press article on Donyelle (http://www.avpress.com/n/18/0818_s3.hts) and had an epiphany! Well, sort of : ). I grew up in the AV (where Donyelle is from). My brother went to QH High School (also where Donyelle went). Yippee! And I went to AV College for 2 years (where she did her 'Hair' performance). So then I realized that the church she goes to (website is http://www.firstmissionaryav.org/) is one of my FAVORITE churches in the world. I've been there a couple of times - my brother actually sang a solo in a service there. I hope this sounds as respectful as I mean for it to - but it is one fly African-American church! It's rockin' on Sunday mornings - awesome music, and the sweetest people ever. I can totally see Donyelle having come from an environment like they have.

Ok, so here's the 31-year-old fangirl side of me: my dad worked with their Bishop (Rev. Hearns) for over 10 years through city government stuff! So guess who I emailed this morning??? My dad, asking him to hook me up with Rev. Hearns :). Even though my family has hung out w/ Rev. Hearns' family before many times, I'm sure he's long forgotten me and will probably think I'm a huge freak, but he and my dad still stay in contact. I'm going to work this angle, girls...and I WILL report back! : ) Wish me luck!

lol Love the comment video Taylor! You know if you actually listen, Benji isn't that bad of a singer. He sounded muffled because he was doing that tongue thing of his that is oh so cute if you look closely.

Liz: hahah. Yeah, like in Janus. At some points I was just like...heeey, not bad Benji! Or...maybe is was just the seriously hot guitar playing in the background. A lil of both, I say! hahaha!

You guys are reading into things too much. The journalist wrote that Donyelle was African-American because she was using it as a way to lead into the next paragraph. One common misconception about the LDS church is that people think we are anti-African-American. This is SO FALSE!!!! The journalist was trying to assure everybody who read the article that the LDS church is not racist and that African-Americans are accepted just as much as everyone else. In fact, African-Americans nearly make up a majority of the church membership. Please don't read into these things. The journalist was using a very common technique to lead into the next paragraph, and she was trying to point out the fact that the LDS religion is not at all against African-Americans. Try to be more open minded about things.

Before you jump to conclusions on what someone meant by a particular statement, you should e-mail him/her to find out. Don't jump to conclusions about what the journalist was meaning.
